CHSP Social Support Group Program
Clota Cottage Neighbourhood House offers social activities in English and Chinese for people over 65 years of age.
Program Purpose: Social Support Group activities are designed to support social connections, improve wellbeing, maintain independent living to remain at home, and to give you the freedom to participate in a range of activities that you enjoy.
Schedule: Most activities require term enrolment, however newcomers may ‘come and try’ a session. Some activities are weekly, others monthly or once a term. Currently most CHSP activities take place on Wednesdays and Thursday, with Chinese speaking activities on Fridays.
Who Can Participate: Our older adults activities are generally open to anyone, regardless of age or registration in the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP). People from all cultural backgrounds may participate in our CHSP activities. Priority is given to participants currently enrolled with My Aged Care to attend the Program. More information about CHSP eligibility is outlined below.
CHSP and My Aged Care: Those registered with My Aged Care to attend CHSP Social Support Group activities at Clota Cottage receive priority to attend when numbers exceed capacity and are also eligible for subsidised rates for most activities.
How Do I Participate: Newcomers are always welcome. We strongly recommend that you contact Marie, our Social Support Group Facilitator, and organise a time to visit us to have a chat and a cuppa.
Waitlists may apply for some of our most popular activities.
Fees for CHSP Participants
Our CHSP program is partly funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. Participants are required to contribute to cover the cost of facilitated activities. Our Social Support Group Facilitator will discuss the cost of activities at your initial appointment, prior to commencing any activities. Costs have increased significantly in the past few years, but we try to keep fees as low as possible. Special consideration is available to anyone experiencing financial difficulty.
Fees vary depending on the activity and any applicable subsidies. Some activities require only a gold coin donation, with facilitated classes between $6 - 15 per session, depending on applicable concessions.
CHSP Eligibility and Assessment
Social Support Group activities are funded by the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) for people over 65, (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people).
Should you wish to join activities as a CHSP participant, please register for a CHSP assessment via the My Aged Care System, myagedcare.gov.au
At your assessment you must request to be referred to Clota Cottage’s Social Support Group Program. We will receive a referral for you to join our program if you advised the assessor that you wish to join our program.
We can help guide you through the assessment application process. Contact us on 9899 0062.
